College and University International Women’s Day Competition

Happy International Women’s Day!

To celebrate we are excited to launch our International Women’s Day Competition that is open to all college and university pupils in the UK and Ireland.

The competition

Identify a woman in STEM who has done noteworthy work and bring them to life for young people at primary or secondary. Use code to create something interactive that presents the person as a role model and brings them and their achievements to life. This could be a database of STEM women, a game, a website, an app etc. What you create is up to you, as long as it utilises code.

Is it free to enter?

Yes, the competition is free to enter.

When does the competition end?

Entries close at midnight on the 4th of April.

Is this competition only open to female students?

No. This competition is open to all students at college or university in the UK and Ireland.

Who can take part?

The competition is only open to UK and Ireland college and university students. But there is nothing stopping schools across the world from using this as a themed lesson in their classes or clubs.

Are you able to provide feedback for entries?

Unfortunately not. Previous competitions have had a significant number of entries and dressCode is run by three teachers, we would love to give feedback to everyone but it’s just not possible. Rest assured that every entry will be considered and judged fairly.

Can we enter as a team?

Yes. We will accept team entries, maximum of 4 students in a team.

Do I have to be studying Computing Science to enter?

No. This competition is open to any student currently studying at college or university from the UK and Ireland, but the entry must be a coded solution.

Is there a specific programming language that should be used?

No. Entries can be completed using any programming language, whatever you are comfortable with.

Does the women in STEM have to be famous?

No. We know there are so women in STEM out there doing incredible things. This is a great opportunity to help raise their profile and celebrate them.

Can I include more than just the women I have picked to celebrates name and achievements in our entry?

Yes! Be as creative as possible. You can find out more about the judging criteria below.

What is the judging criteria?

The judges will be looking for creative, eye catching entries that stand out and celebrate a women in STEM and her achievements. Your entry must bring them to life for young people at primary or secondary.

How do I submit entries?

Please email your pupil’s entries to competitions@dresscode.org.uk Entries must be submitted from your official college/university email or will not be included in the competition. You must also include the name of the college/university you are from and the name of one of your lecturers.

Can pupils submit more than one entry?

No. We are only accepting one entry per person or group. If we receive multiple entries we will take the first submission as the entry from the competition.

When will the winners be announced?

You will find out who has won before the end of May. We will email the winning individual/team along with your college/university lecturer you name you provided. We will send out the prize to your lecturer at your college/university.

What are the prizes?

The winning team will get a set of AirPods, one for each member of the team.
