Targeted interventions can be transformative!
While a one-off event can be inspirational, a series of targeted interventions can be transformative, and that is what is needed to #CloseTheGenderGap. Computing Science in Scotland has the largest gender gap compared to traditional STEM subjects and has maintained this disparity for a very long time.
dressCodeHQ has a list of around 30 secondary schools that have reached out to us to help inspire more females to pursue Computing Science at school and consider a career in the tech sector. We are looking for companies interested in collaborating with dressCodeHQ to help create a package of targeted interventions for every age and stage for these schools to support them with their aim of increasing more female uptake.
The idea would be to offer a series of events, including a dressCode hackathon, talks, and workshops featuring females in the industry. Tech She Can assemblies for multiple year groups, provide opportunities for industry insight days etc. We are open to any and all ideas to help close the gender gap.
The schools come from various councils, including Edinburgh, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Falkirk, Glasgow, Highlands, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Perth and Kinross, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, Stirling, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.
Keen to speak to anyone companies who are able to support and help in anyway.
As a country, if we can address the root cause of the pipeline that starts in schools, we can create a sustainable, healthy tech talent pipeline for Scotland.
