Choose Computing Science poster – Competition

Happy Ada Lovelace Day! We are so excited to launch our poster competition. This competition is open to all Primary and Secondary pupils in the UK and Ireland.

The competition:
Pupils have to design their own Choose Computing Science poster. You can submit entries to via the google form here: bit.ly/AdaScotPoster2021

See below for more details.

Is it free to enter?

Yes, the competition is free to enter.

Is this a girls only competition?

No. While dressCode clubs and competitions primarily focus on closing the gender gap and clubs and competitions for girls, we are also helping raise the profile of Computing Science in schools. Competitions are a great way to help get pupils engaged in coding and to help inspire them into Computing Science.

Who can take part?

The competition is only open to UK and Ireland Primary and Secondary schools. If schools across the world wish to design a Choose Computing Science poster, we would love to see them. You can tag us on social media @dresscodehq.

Are you able to provide feedback for entries?

Unfortunately not. Previous competitions have had a significant number of entries and dressCode is run by three teachers. We would love to give feedback to everyone, but it’s just not possible. Rest assured that every entry will be considered and judged fairly.

Can we enter as a team?

Not for this specific competition.

When is the closing date?

12th of November 2021

Can this be completed on paper?

Yes. We are accepting entries completed either on paper or online.

Can I use any online tool to help design a poster? Are there any tools you would suggest when designing a poster?

Yes! Be as creative as possible. We love Canva, but you can use any tool if you are designing this online.

What is the judging criteria?

The judges will be looking for creative, eye catching entries that stand out. It must say “Choose Computing Science” but it does not just need to say this, it could have graphics or exciting reasons or quotes as to why pupils should choose Computing Science. Be creative!

How do I submit entries?

All entries must be submitted by a teacher using this form bit.ly/AdaScotPoster2021. Entries must be submitted including an official school email or entries will not be included in the competition.

I’m having difficulty with the form, can you help?

You can send any submissions to support@dresscode.org.uk including poster design, name of pupil, name of school, school postcode, gender of pupil (optional) and year group of pupils.

Can pupils submit more than one entry?

No. We are only accepting one entry per pupil. If we receive multiple entries from an individual pupil we will take the first submission as the entry from the competition.

What are the prizes?

We have 4 x Raspberry pi 400’s and 4 Sphero minis to give away.

When will the winners be announced?

We will contact the teacher associated with the winning entry by the end of December.

Our school will not allow us to submit pupils’ first and second names, can I still enter?

Yes. We understand the security concerns around pupil data. We will never share pupil’s data we only collect this so we can inform you if that individual pupil has won a prize, please see our privacy policy. If you feel more comfortable providing the pupils first name and then a unique identifier so that you will be able to identify between pupils with the same first name. For example, Max 1 and Max 2 would be acceptable.

If you have any other questions you can contact us via competitions@dresscode.org.uk. We cannot wait to see what you all come up with. Have fun and Happy Ada Lovelace day!
